Our Values

Leduc Community Baptist Church seeks to be:

 

“An authentic vibrant community, being changed by Christ

to change the world.”


We want to state clearly, that we are committed to the message and promises of Jesus Christ. We believe that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. (John 10:10)

 

Faith in Jesus is not a life insurance policy, it is a living and active relationship with God through the complete work of Christ. Real change only occurs as we submit our lives to the Spirit of God and allow Him to empower and direct us. It is in this relationship that our hearts and minds are renewed and we discover whole, rich and meaningful life. As we read in Philippians 2:13:

 

"...for it is God who works in you to will and to act

in order to fulfill His good purposes."

 
How this message is shared is also important to how we function as a church community. Too many people have been turned away from faith by condemnation and legalistic approaches to life. This being said, we believe that we have been given a responsibility to always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks us to give the reason for the hope that we have. But we must do this with gentleness and respect.


Author Phillip Yancey reflects on this call:


“From now on we regard no one from an earthly point of view.” Paul wrote the Corinthians. He concluded by saying that God has now relegated to the followers of Jesus Christ the message of reconciliation with God, adding this remarkable phrase: as though God were making his appeal through us. I shudder at the sheer audacity of God entrusting such a task - God making his appeal through us - to a species known for making divisions between beautiful and ugly, rich and poor, dark-skinned, and light, male and female, strong and weak. Taking God`s assignment seriously means that I must learn to look at the world upside down, as Jesus did."


He goes on to say that Jesus calls us to seek out the needy and the weak. We believe we are called to live out our faith in community, and in submission to God and with humble hearts, to impact the world with Christ's love. We are called to share His love and hope with the world.

 

 

As we seek to live out this reality, the following are values that drive our ministry in the church:

 

A First Impulse To Pray.

JN 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."


We are fully dependent upon the Spirit and work of God for success that is eternal. Prayer demonstrates a posture of submission. We believe that the centrality of prayer helps us to live in dependence upon God and reminds us often of where our strength is found, and our hearts are changed.

 

Shaping Lives In Devotion to Christ.

2 "Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good." 1 Peter 2:2-3


Faith that is sustaining, leads us through all the stages of life. There will always be those who are before and behind us on our journey in the Kingdom of God. The scriptures encourage us to have faith like children, and yet to be mature. We are told to respect and learn from those who older than us, and not to discourage youth from becoming leaders. In a family, everyone has an important role to play, and everyone is of equal value. We are called to be disciples and to disciple one another.


Our faith is centered in our relationship with Jesus. He has shown us the way to live in the will of His Father. In all that we do, we want to encourage one another to follow Him more completely,

 

Engaging and Reflective Worship.

PHP 4:8 "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.- And the God of peace will be with you."


Worship is what keeps our focus on the One True God. It isn’t useful for earning “spiritual points”, and it doesn’t impact in any way how God feels about us. But worship does immerse us in the splendor and mystery of the King of the universe. It invites us to enjoy God’s presence in personal and corporate ways that take us out of our time and into the eternal purposes of God. As a result of understanding more of Him, we are changed, as God’s life is breathed into us.


Embedding Faith Into Homes.

5 "Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."

 

It is the role of the church to encourage and assist families in making the home the center of spiritual life and learning. Parents, and grandparents are the most influential and natural purveyors of faith in the lives of their children. In our world of professionalism, people often feel unequipped to be the ones who pass on faith, but it is both our calling and privilege. Faith is not a program, or a ministry, but a way of life, first lived out at home, and then reinforced in community. While we provide excellent ministry to children, we seek to equip individuals and families to grow and live out their faith in their daily lives and homes.


Extending Christ's Compassion and Hope In Our World.

“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter3:15.

 

2 “Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. 3 For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, 4they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. 5 And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will.” 2 Corinthians 8:2-5


The Kingdom of God is not ours to keep. It is the message of life that was and is intended for all people. And following the example of Jesus our Savior and leader, we are given the task of bringing his compassion and hope to the world. God is both Truth and Love. Hope is best shared as the outflow of compassion. Generosity and hospitality are to be hallmarks of the people of The Way. It is our hope and prayer that in word and in action, we will be a people who are faithful to the gospel of Jesus.


Biblical Teaching That Inspires Change.

HEB 4:12-13 "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account."

 

Everything that we do must be grounded in truth. God has given us His truth in His Word. In a world where we are inundated with relativism and sin, the ways of the Kingdom must be firmly planted in our hearts and minds. We believe that in God`s Word we are given His plan of salvation for all people, along with direction and wisdom for all of life's circumstances. In His words, we find real hope that will sustain us until He comes again.
